My Character Review

Our 4th Ed D&D game is over. We completed the Keep on the Shadowfell and want to start something different. We are restarting our Hero System back up, now with more players.

With my character being mothballed, I wanted to reflect on the choices I used for the Feats, At-Wills, Encounter, Daily and Utility Powers.

My character was a Ranger and I had fun.

D&D Game 01-09-09 (7)

First off are the Feats:

Defensive Mobility: It helped some when the attacker came to me when I was off to the side pelting them with some arrows.
Lethal Hunter: A great benefit with my Hunter's Quarry target.
Elven Precision: It helped when I got to re-roll one of my attacks for Elven Accuracy
Distant Advantage: We leveled up our character for the last battle and did not get a chance to use this at all. With past battle in mind. I think it could be put to good use.

Next would be
At-Wills:

Wit the two at will I had, Careful Attack and Twin Strike, I found out I mostly used the Twin Strike attack. You have two chances to attack and most of the time you would hit with one of the attacks. A few time you could hit with both. I could see using Careful Attack with Distant Advantage to get the To Hit bonus up to +4, but never got a chance to try it out.

Next would be
Encounter Powers:

The two power that I used were Two-Fanged Strike and Thundertusk Boar Strike. With
Two-Fanged Strike it helped out some, it is like Twin Strike, as you attack twice, but has the possibility of a little more damage. Almost all the time I used this power I only hit the one time that boosted the damage a little. This would be a power I would change if I remade the character.

With Thundertusk Boar Strike, it attacks twice. The option of this was that it also pushes the target it it hits. I used this many a time to get the target in the right place.

Next on the list is the Daily Powers:

With Split the Tree daily, you do need to get the two targets near each other for this to work. With the attack, you roll 2 dice and take the best one. Then you roll the high damage on targets. This as help a many a time to deal damaging and killing attacks.

The last item was my
Utility Power choice:

The Yield Ground option sounded good in the begining, but only got used once or twice. With Being a arrow chucker, I was off to the side or in the back and when I did get hit it was by ranged attacks.
Yield Ground only kicks in on melee attacks. This would be the other item I would change.

My Skill choices worked for the character and I do not see any changes that would have help durring the game.

That a my review of my character choices. Now to put the character sheet into the folder and put the folder onto the booksheld with the other RPG book and papers.

Cut it out.

Last night I caught the last 30 min of "The Fires of Pompeii" a 4th season Doctor Who episode on the SciFi Channel. I had watched the original BBC episode a few weeks ago and with the US release I noticed they had cut at least 2 shots. One was at where the Doctor and Donna were running back to town from the escape pod and they just showed up the house were the Tardis was. They cut the street shot that was in the BBC original. The other shot that was cut was at the very end where had a "Six Months Later" shot of the family that survived. Why did they need to do that? Time? More commercials time?

To Sell a DVD

With two main outlets for DVDs (at least for me) there is a choice for new releases. Cost can be a factor. But if both stores have the same cost. This is where extras come in. Not the extras on the DVD, but item that come with the DVD. Here are a few examples.

Superman: Doomsday DVD
At Best Buy they had a Justice League: New Frontier mini comic book attached to the DVD.
At Circuit City they had a poster of one of the Death Of Superman comics.

Family Guy DVD
At Best Buy they had a Exclusive Animated Art of the DVD cover.
At Circuit City they had a little bit lower cost.

Smallville Season Six
At Bust Buy they had a mini visual guide to Smallville by DK.
At Circuit City they had it on sale, not sure if it different.

The ones above were the ones I recall from today's trip to the store. They did something similar with the Ghost Rider DVD and Heroes.
One thing I will point out is look for the sticker on the DVD saying the item is in or on the package. They the standard ones and the special one mixed together. Make sure you pick the right one.

What I did today.

Today I saw the movie TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), which was a great movie, at the 11:05 am to get the lower cost, which is around $9.00 for prine time. Great movie. One thing I saw at the end of the movie in Splinter room, on a shelf was that time travel specter in the 3rd movie. After the movie I got some food and played Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords on my PSP. And them I went over to the Games Workshop to have a look around. Its close to where I live , but I have never been in there. I did find a good color (Desert Yellow) to use for some minis I am painting.

My Anime Rant

Watched the Pokemon movie, Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, that was Cartoon Network tonight and was sorry to see a good chunk of the movie missing. I saw the Japanese version of the movie the movie opened with a good overview of the Pokemon world which was about 4 to 5 minutes. That was missing. Then the next shot was with the Pokemon Ranger rescuing the Pokemon egg from the pirate ship which was about 10 to 15 minutes. That was also missing. From what I could tell the movie did not suffer from the cut shots, the scenes were in the original Japanese version, why were they not kept. I do not know why the movie was not kept whole. The only reason I can possibly see is it was cut for time. The movie was given 2 and a half hour, but the movie only used 2 hours and 10 minutes. The other 20 or so minutes were used to a different cartoon show.

Thats my story and I am sticking with it.

Time frame.

GeekLable make a great shirt, it has held up to a few washing so far. I had given our game group (of 3 including me) a GeekLable shirt. On one game day I got everyone to put on the shirt and was able to snap a picture.

Geek Game Group

From what GeekLable's Web site says, "Have a fan photo you'd line to share?". So I did. I email the photo on February 25th and got this email responce on March 6th:

Hey heath,
Thanks for the awesome photo! Sorry not to get it online sooner. Hopefully, I have it online in the next day or two.

As of today, March 18th, it has not shown up yet on their photo page. You say 2 days, it should be posted there in around the 2 day. It has been 12 day, it should be posted by now.

Thats my rant and I am sticking to it for now. ;-)

The GeekLable Shirts

I ordered some GeekLable shirts as a x-mas gifts for my game group on Jan 4th. I got the notice for the items on Jan 29th. Thats 25 days to get the product. To compare to a simular product, I ordered a Dragons Landing Inn shirt from CafePress and got the item with in a week (7 days).

To make a long story long, the GeekLable shirts were sent to my apt. manager office which is open from 9am to 6pm. I have to get to work before 9am, so that would work for me. But from work I got home on Tuesday about 10 min till 6pm. They were closed for the day. The next day I got home 15 min, again they were closed. Thursday came around, I got home about 20 min and yes they were closed again. That day I found out that we were gaming the next day. I needed to get the shirts for the group. I came home from lunch around 1:15pm and they were closed for lunch. I got lunch myself and right before I headed back to work and found they were open. I picked the package brought it to the group to hand them out.

Looks like a good product, but processing time sucks. Over 3 weeks!

Kodakgallery.com

My problem with this sight is that what you upload is not what you get. You get to view the pictures online, which is good, but if you want the picture to be printed out or take to the local drug store to print it out, you get a 448 x 298 pix picture. With this quality the best you can get is a wallet photo, unless you want to order the picture online. One more thing that has come to mind is that to view the pictures you have to create a login and get spam from Kodak. Use Flickr. That my 2 cents on this.
