In the mail.

The calendars have sent out tonight and should be there in around Monday (I hope).

The post office (near my apt) has a 24hr machine that has been down. So I headed over to downtown Bellevue's post office, which has a working machine. Postage has been purchased and the package has been drop off in the drop box tonight.

This year's project was more work than the past. There was the 20 or so hours worked on picking and scanning in the paintball photos and working on the layout of the calendar. And then there was the DVD project I have been working on for a long while. It was off and on over the last year or so. One down and a few more to go. As a added bonus to the second DVD I was able to tape a item on paintballs. It all take time, just to get the best quality from VHS Tape to DVD to Computer (for layout with Menus) and back to DVD.

My Snapfish Calendars.

I got my calendars today and they look great. The pictures game out clear, the paper it was printed on is nice & thick and the date pictures came our clear. One other nice thing about the calendars, there is a picture index on the back of all the pictures. For 15+ hours, it came out great. A lot different than the single picture I had with the other place.

Give snapfish.com a try.

Finished.

Just today I finished the 2007 Paintball Calendars for friends and family. I took a while to get all the pictures scanned and adjusted. There ended up to be over 40 pictures in this calendar. Did a little different this year, and went thru snapfish.com due to the multi-picture format and the cost.

My idea.

Here is my idea:
Going to try something new this next calendar and I need your help.

With the below link:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/heathbar/sets/72157594284785113/

This has about ten pictures in it currently (more to added as time goes on) and I need some info on the pictures, funny thoughts on the picture(s) or just something funny about the picture.

Maybe a Thought Bubble or a Speach Balloon added to the picture?

Like found at this link: http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/captioner.php

Or maybe a Motivational Poster?

Try them out. Add you suggestions on on the above flickr account, email them to me, send me a completed item or do all the above.
I got my first response from the above email I sent out:

Hello uncle Heath. For a couple of them I think you should add a thought bubble/speach bubble and I really think their good for the caleneder. The one that caught my eye was the one were someone was pointing at someone and they were covoring their head in the grass. I think that was really funny and it should be have something like one guy crying not to get shot and the other saying something that would be funny for the moment.

My old hobby.

I was at Fred Meyer today and saw a paint gun being sold there next to the BB guns. Back in the old days you had to get them from a catalog or a specific store (makes me sound old, doesn't it).

Things to do with Paintball.

The Paintball calendars have sent out and received by the group. With my selection of pictures was something of a selected choice. Trying not to duplicate the same pictures from the past calendars. To make it easy on me, I have added tags to the pictures in the photo album for each year they were used.
Next is to finish the DVD project. It has been a few month sense I have done anything. But, when I stopped I have almost finished 2 full DVD. I do have some 2-Disk DVD cases that I have from storage. The only other major thing that need done is the slip page for the case that has the cover and index on the back.

Here is the breakdown of the dates and places of the pictures for the 2006 Paintball Calendar:

Some info about the Paintball DVD project

I burned a copy of disk 1 the other night and just got arond to check it out today. When I had copied it onto a DVD to work on it on the computer, I had recorded it on a MED setting. With that setting, the final out come was that it came out blockie and grainie. If you know the people, you can basicly tell who is who. But that is not good. Right at this time I am re-recoroding the eps on a higher frame rate (the SP setting, 2 hrs). It should come out a lot better, I hope.

Some additional film.

Got this e-mail from Will today:

A DVD of our paintball videos is an awesome idea. I don't know how large a project you want to make it, but still have 3 or 4 videos here somewhere.
If you are interested, I will try to find them and send them to you. I have watched them in a couple of years, but I believe one of them has the paintball commercial Luke and I made for class. Anyway, let me know if you want to see them. It's great to hear from you.

This project is coming along at a good pace. And it now looks like, now it with more complete with the additional film that Will has offered. (pictured is Will (left) and Chad (right) after a game at Predators Den)

Some changes . . .

I have burned another copy of Disk 2 of the paintball video compilation with a few changes from the prev copy. Below are some screen shots of the menu and the sub-menu of Disk 2. The main menu has the a animated picture as the button (a 30 sec clip), while the sub-menu are static pictures. You can't tell from the pictures there is some background music going on. Main Menu: "Hope and Menory" from Lord of the Ring: Return of the King; Sub-Menu: "The Ride of the Rohirrin" also from Lord of the Ring: Return of the King

With Disk 1, I am thinking of changing the background music to something a little different. I am still thinking about it at this time. Once I have burned a copy of Disk 1 for viewing, I will see if it sill has the same fell as Disk 2.

Some changes . . .

When I burned a copy of Disk 2, some items did not look right.

  1. Lowered some of the sub-menu fonts (to get a bigger picture)
  2. Adjusted one of the picture's background
  3. Removed the animated buttons from a sub-menu
  4. Adjusted the font color of a few of the sub-menus
  5. Changed some of the button pictures

(pictured is Chad acting small and trying to get shot when doing a shot off with Luke)

DVD project goes on

I have gone the files for disk 1 and 2 to make sure the basics are there. It looks good. Will be running off a copy of disk 2 to see how it looks on the big screen. (screen shot of Luke)

My paintball DVD project.

I have 3 old paintball VHS video. I have the footage broken down to fit on 2 DVDs. I am currently playing around with footage (ie menu layout, fade out/ins, titles). My brother with be down in about 2 weeks and will have a chance to have a look at this draft. I will be looking for any info I might have missed.

The next step will be to work on the cover of the DVD case. Will be looking for some artwork or picture on the front and small snap shots of some of the games on the back. Will be looking for a 4 to 6 lines to sum up the experience of paintball and then some final notes on this project.

This is going to be a Christmas gift, so I hope to have this project finish before then.

On a side note, for the past 3 years I have doing a paintball calendar. I hope to be able to find 12 good photos (that have not been used yet) to use on the 2006 calendar.
